Hi,
I would like to know if there is any restriction to 120v. lighting fixtures that are the plug in type to be modified (cut the plug) and hard-wired to an accessable junction box beside the fixture.
Thanks.

That is a kind of "grey area".
There is no specific rule that I know of, but generally, modification of equipment can result in voiding the CSA approval.
It would be up to your inspector, but how is he going to know, if you don't tell him.
There would be no real safety hazard if installed with approved wiring methods.

Hi Ed, Thanks for the quick response, I always look forward to your input.
I guess my concern was that most wire that supplies small plug in light fixtures is supplied with a #16 or #18 lamp cord and if hard wired to a junction box would violate and code?
Unfortunatly in most situations it would not be possible to remove the manufactures cord and hard wire direct with a 14/2 as the fixtures that are supplied for cabnet lighting are getting smaller each year.
